Village Headman Order, Woman Gang-Raped By 13 West Bengal: A twenty-year-old tribal woman was allegedly gang-raped in the Birbhum district of West Bengal by at least twelve men, reportedly, on the orders of a village kangaroo court. The court pronounced its verdict as a punishment for having a relationship with a boy from a different community. The victims family was first asked to pay a fine of Rs 2000. However, when the family expressed its inability to pay the fine, the village headman allegedly ordered the gang-rape of the woman. The victim later lodged a First Information Report at the local Police Station from where she was taken for treatment. The victim has named 13 persons in the FIR. The incident has evoked a nationwide reaction.
