Viruses: What are they good for? With all this talk about deadly viruses, the topic also pops up frequently when discussing evolution. Endogenous Retro Viruses (ERVs) are often suggested as the strongest evidence for human evolution from apes or monkeys or ape-like animals. Before we debate ERVs and how they relate to human evolution (Barry hold on to your FAQ for a minute), we must first understand the nature of viruses. Here are some things to consider: Are all viruses bad? Are there viruses that offer benefits to the host? Where did viruses come from? I was shocked when I learned that certain ERV sequences are known to play an active role in embryonic development. Many Evolutionists often reject the significance of this evidence, and downplay the implications it has on the evidence of ERVs. They insist functionality of viruses is irrelevant. Naturally, I disagree. As a designer, functionality is what I live for. How can a virus contain genetic information for embryonic development of a foreign animal? There is only one explanation, Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT). Human evolution being spread around! ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC153808/
