Visit Keralas Technopark, the biggest IT hub in India: Source: Rediff, March 14, 2014 The IT hub, Technopark in the state capital Thiruvananthapuram is now the biggest IT park in India with a total built up area of 7.2 million square feet. Technopark now has a 333-acre campus with the inauguration of the sprawling Phase III campus on 92 acres of land. Technopark Phase III will house Smart Business Centres to attract budding entrepreneurs. Another highlight of the Phase III’s twin towers is that it is the first LEED Gold rated IT building in Kerala. With 290 IT and ITeS companies, Technopark has become the single largest employer in Kerala. Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and UST Global will hire thousands in the next one year, making the Technopark one of the most sought after IT hotspots in India. Technopark is run by an autonomous society and is promoted by the government of Kerala. Launched in 1990, Technopark now employs over 45,000 people and 1.5 lakh people are benefited indirectly. With support facilities like a satellite earth station, a 200-seater convention centre, a club and guest house, a shopping complex, banks, ATMs, restaurants and conference rooms on campus, Technopark is an ideal IT hub. The setting up of new units is exempt from state level clearances. Interestingly, seven buildings in Technopark are named after rivers in Kerala - the Pamba, the Periyar, the Nila, the Chandragiri, the Gayathri, Bhavani and the Thejaswini. The two new buildings at the Phase III project are called Yamuna and Ganga. Also hailed as the greenest IT park in India, Technopark prides to have a cosmopolitan and diverse culture. With the motto of ‘Harmony at Work’, Technopark is built amidst lush greenery and hailed as one of the greenest IT parks in the world. Focussing on innovation, the Technopark Business Incubation Centre (T-BIC) aims to provide economically plug and play facilities to start-ups in the IT/ITES fields. This facility has given rise to over 47 successful ventures. A further expansion is planned across 451 acres, which will make Technopark a 784 acre-IT hotspot. The Phase IV of Technopark will be known as Technocity project. The new campus will house IT, biotechnology, nanotechnology, commercial and residential accommodation spread over 500 acres. The new Technocity will also have state-of-the-art buildings, malls, residential apartments, educational institutions, hospital, multiplexes, club house and recreational facilities.
