Visited the Mountain Home Places one room schoolhouse yesterday. Watching my children explore and ask questions, it made me think about how things have changed. (Not all of it for the better I might add.) My daughter held up a paddle, asking what it was. I realized that my children probably have never seen one in their schools. I explained to her what it was and what it was used for. I also thought about this for a while and wondered, perhaps if this form of discipline was still allowed at school and self respect and respect for others was still taught by parents in the home, we might not need as many prisons today. There probably wouldnt be a drug problem and there probably would be far less crime in our nation. I was impressed that my children could recite the pledge of allegiance, but even this has been under attack by so called politically correct people. In my opinion our nations founding fathers definition of political correctness meant to do things freely without the fear of retribution from others, so long as what you were doing was morally and ethically right and legal in the eyes of the law. Even though it will probably never happen, it would be wonderful if we could return to the innocence of the past. Return to a time when issues were black and white (right or wrong) without all the gray clouding things to the point where almost anything goes.
