Visited the newly softly opened Restaurant Panris along the same Restaurant belt as China Kitchen, Sattar Baksh etc in Block 4 Clifton. At first glance the Restaurant looked quite cosy and the ambiance gave a felling of comfortability. I was quickly told by the owner Ayesha and her partner that they had not officially opened and were running in soft mode whilst finishing off a few facets of the decor etc. I decided to sit outside on the deck as it was quite pleasant outdoors. The chairs were comfortable and I felt comfortable straight away. I asked for the menu which was printed on simple paper tied together...Ayesha informed me that the menu was being finalised and would be printed in time for the official opening on the 10th of January. I ordered the Tamarind cool drink...I found it to be very tasty and probably the best Tamarind drink I have had anywhere including the Far East. I ordered two starters The Seafood Salad and the Garlic chilli Prawns and for the main course I ordered The Lobster Ravioli. The Seafood salad was ok and I pointed out a few anamolies in the putting together and the ingredients to Ayesha who willingly suggested that she would make some changes to the dish. The Chilli Garlic prawns were good but could have been a tad warmer. I suspect this was due to the fact that I had them slightly later as we were discussing stuff feverishly re the menu. Then came the Lobster Ravioli...looked attractive on the plat e so was looking forward to the taste. Found the Ravioli under cooked and the sauce covering them was strong in taste so drowned the taste of the Lobster. I pointed this out and in true good spirit Ayesha agreed to make the necessary changes immediately. I ordered the bread pudding which I found spot on. It was perfect in every way and could not fault the taste or the presentation. Panris is a good addition to the eatery scene in Karachi and feel with the attitude of the owners it will go a long way. The willingness to listen and take appropriate action to sort out their teething issues is a breath of fresh air in an industry where owners of Restaurants seldom like listening to criticism. I think the partners need to be congratulated on putting together a sweet and cosy Restaurant with a lot of potential. I would recommend for the die hard foody to wait for a little bit till they have sorted out their teething problems with the menu.
