Vitamin D. Do you know your level? Do you know why it is - TopicsExpress

Vitamin D. Do you know your level? Do you know why it is important? Optimal levels of Vitamin D have been linked to lots of super important things including improved mood and mental cognition, decreased inflammatory responses, increased production of antimicrobials that reduce gut infections and skin pathogens, lowered rates of diabetes, help in assimilation of calcium (think osteoporosis), and reduced rates of most cancers!!! If that isnt a list that catches your eye, dont know what would. How do you know if you are low? Get 9 of your friends together and only 1 of you is likely to have adequate levels of Vitamin D. So, chances are, you need to supplement. Sunshine, food, and supplements are the way we get D. Most agree it is impossible to get adequate levels from the food we eat, which leaves sunshine and supplements. New research indicates you need about 30 minutes of FULL BODY exposure to sunlight, no sunscreen, to make adequate levels. Assuming most of us dont have access to that, supplementing seems like a good alternative. So, have your levels tested (blood test) and talk to your health care provider about how much you should be taking on a daily basis. Yes, even in the summer.....
