Vlad the Impaler Shot Down Malaysian Plane Its become clear within the past hour that the Malaysian plane shot down over Ukraine was fired upon by Russian missiles. The territory where the plane went down is controlled by Russian separatists, theyve been shooting at Ukrainian aircraft for weeks, and the US Pentagon now says it has evidence that the missile that downed the plane was fired from Russian territory. Ukraine has called it a terrorist act and says that the separatists have recovered the black boxes from the plane. They may now be harder to recover than the ones in the Indian Ocean. Russia has been denying direct involvement, attributing all hostilities to spontaneous sentiments inside Ukraine. That position becomes untenable now. Now that Putins nakedness can be proclaimed by any child, the real question is what the west will do, since it is still intimately engaged with Russia on scores of economic, diplomatic, and military endeavors, including energy projects and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
