Voicing my frustration and disappointment in pediatric medicine. There has never been, at any given point in time in my career of 15 years as a mom, that a pediatricians office/doctor has been reliable in providing follow up information regarding any of my sick children. I have been forced to call time and time again to make sure that the doctors office is doing THEIR job and I have about had it. I understand that pediatricians are inundated day after day and dont have the staffing to provide follow up care persistently for every single child, but as a mom when you are worrying about whether your 6 yr old has MONO for crying out loud- I think certain cases take priority!!! I took my son for a blood test (with which there was much drama and screaming In pain over the insertion of the needle) on Friday at 11 a.m. Where I was assured i would have an answer by that afternoon or Saturday morning at the latest...well, by Saturday @ noon I had not received a call so I am compelled to call the doctor only to hear that no they had not heard back from the lab and sorry about your luck because now the lab is closed for the remainder of the weekend. So here it is, Sunday night. I still have no answers and a son who is still sick with fever and tomorrow I am an FCAT proctor for which I am forced to call in sick because I dont know what the hell is going on with my son! If a child is presented in your office that you suspect MONO then I would expect a bit more DILiGENCE on your part in trying to figure out if he does so that I know if I have to be careful if whether his SPLEEN will erupt or if we are just talking about tonsillitis!!!! Jesus! Do u need to become the freaking doctor here or what!?!?!
