Volcano Summary. There has been an eruption on White Island on September 24 as expected from the 13 -16 September forecast. Volcanos have been hot across the Central North Island after this period. Due to a major weather storm crossing the Bay of Plenty on 24 September, Geonet have not reported any activity....yet. Oh dear. The link between seismic and volcanic activity is well established and this eruption goes with earlier forecasts. 1. Tongariro. 6 August, 2012. No date given. 2. Tongariro. 21 November, 2012. Forecast 22-28 November. 3. White Island. 28 January, 2013(?). Forecast 26/27 January. 4. White Island. 23 February, 2013. Forecast 21/22 February. 5. White Island. March 18, 2013. Forecast 19/20 March. Observers will note that no forecasts were entered for the White Island eruptions following the Cook Strait and Lake Grassmere quakes. The first eruption was a complete surprise and the second eruption should have been forecast...forecasting is never easy, at least the quakes were right.
