Volcano Under Snow - A Sculpture dedicated to General Giap A - TopicsExpress

Volcano Under Snow - A Sculpture dedicated to General Giap A former history teacher who led an army of peasants to defeat two of the most powerful imperialists in the world. He is one of the greatest generals of the 20th century and Vietnam’s national hero. And this is his story of triumph and struggle, presented in sculpture. More about the sculpture: Volcano under snow was what the French used to call General Giap because he looked calm, composed and even dapper from the outside. Nevertheless, deep within, he was aggressive, unpredictable, determined and probably filled with hatred, too. The reason was because the French tortured and killed both his father and his first wife. It was a wound which never healed for him. The platform of the sculpture is a blackboard with a diagram of a Napoleons battle. General Giap used to be a history teacher and he studied intensively Napoleons strategies. Besides, on the world map, both the US and France were covered in chalk (or volcanic ash, if you wish) because it was a humiliation for both countries to be defeated by a school teacher. In the end, the red hammer, which is next to the sculpture, represents the Communist ideals which he fought for. But in the end, he was suppressed, ostricized and harmed by his comrades.
