Volunteers, Thank you very much for volunteering yesterday in the Cleanup on G Street. I was so happy with the turnout. We had 78 people sign in. It was so good to see so many youth out helping because they are our future and they need to know that behavior such as illegal dumping and littering is not acceptable. Way to go! We filled 130 bags. I drove by this afternoon, the street sweeper was sweeping and it really looked great – all of the bags and piles have been picked up and only the tires and hazardous waste (oil, paint, etc.) remain. Unfortunately there was some illegal dumping last night which was also picked up today. Thank you to all the groups who came out including Keep Oakland Beautiful, Cosmopolitan Church, Men of Valor, NIMBY, BART Police, My Own Two Hands, Oakland Catholic Workers, Block By Block Organizing Network, Hope Collaborative. Thank you to all of the families, individuals and the Mayor who came to help make Oakland Beautiful. Thank you to Oakland Public Works Department for the tools, site preparation (they removed all of the big items such as sofas, chairs, etc. ahead of time), the Men of Valor for transporting the tools and the Oakland Police Department.
