Von Martin to Foster Exceptional Alaskan Husky Rescue from Arctic - TopicsExpress

Von Martin to Foster Exceptional Alaskan Husky Rescue from Arctic Alaskan Village. Read this dogs amazing story: Kaya, a 2 year old female, was found in terrible condition in remote Point Hope, AK; on the NW Alaskan coast by Dr. Lyndall Soule, Serum Run 25 veterinarian. The dog was tied out in a blizzard w/o shelter, food or water and weight reduced to 26 lbs. Kayas nearby dog friend was already dead from exposure. Dr Soule, found Kaya scratching at solid ice - all snow having blown away - trying to drink her urine for hydration. Dr Soule, now an AK borough vet, seized the dog and flew her to Barrow, AK. Kaya is gaining weight and doing well. She is a sweet and exceptional husky. Dr Soules evaluation of Kaya as follows: What makes this dog special to me is her unconditional love quality (she harbors no grudge). Her great conformation and strength for pulling. She loves being around other dogs. She has a keen sense of smell and can find a speck of blood or a potential food source under snow and ice. She remembers and scents out where she has been and found her way back to the vet clinic after a walk on the beach and through town, etc; which to me may lend itself to lead dog qualities - following a track. I estimated Kayas age based on the looks of her teeth, wear/tartar,shape and her demeanor. As she gets used to us she has a playful spirit and playful posturing. She is medium boned but of course underweight, and medium coat. Acute awareness, hearing, and smell. But the nice thing is she settles down and sleeps under our desks in the clinic and totally relaxes. No food guarding with humans though but would steal food if she can find it lying around. Likes other dogs and wants to play. She was already spayed when we shaved her so while under anesthesia we did a dental. Loves the snow, buries her face in it and wants to run like a nut case! We dont typically try so hard to find homes but this dog is a thinking dog not just the run of the mill blob tied out on the end of a chain which will be her life here in Barrow. Additional note from Von Martin - we are making arrangements for Kaya to be flown from Barrow, AK to Seattle on Oct 31. Details to follow.
