Vote for your favourite finalist Danielle Eog (Cameroon) : Danielle Eog is a songwriter and singer, a young artist whose heart and spirit reflect her mixed cultural background. Her album “Peace, Love and Light”, is a journey through her multi-facetted musical universe. As if confiding her thoughts to a diary, she sings of her anxieties and hopes, of love with a capital ‘L’, of her vision of her femininity, of her experience of motherhood, her Africanness, her spirituality, in short, of her humanity. Isabel Novella (Mozambique) : Isabel Novella’s style is steeped in jazz and local rhythms. She was born in Maputo, Mozambique and grew up in a family of musicians. Since 2005, she has performed in several festivals in Africa and in Europe. She has recently released her first solo album and already has considerable professional experience as well as a reputation for powerful stage presence which has made her popular with a wide audience. Leergui Project (Senegal) : Leergui Project is the musical union of three talented musicians from Thies Region in Senegal. Their music is acoustic and blends percussions, guitars, piano and vocals to create refined melodies. The group is part of the Senegalese Folk movement. Its new album “Democratie” was released at the beginning of 2013 in Senegal, and features about ten tracks. Lindsey (Nigeria) : Nigerian singer, songwriter and Law graduate, Lindsey Abudei is one of the new stars of Nigerian music scene. With a slightly more “Soul” style, she follows in the footsteps of artists like Asa, TY Bello and even Ayo. This young singer reveals all her vocal potential in her new album. Mani Martin (Rwanda) : Mani Martin, from Rwanda, has already released four albums, the most recent of which is “My Destiny”. His songs are inspired by his country’s painful history and carry a message of hope. His music is strongly influenced by the chants of this Land of a Thousand Hills and are tinged with soul. Thanks to this album, he has performed in several venues across Southern Africa. During the course of his many appearances, he has crossed the paths of great African artists, such as Ismaël Lo, Lokua Kanza and Fémi Kuti. Mariam Koné (Mali) : Mariam Koné is a singer, songwriter and composer from Kati, a town located 15km from Bamako, Mali. Her album “Dakan” is a skilled musical blend of Madinka and Soninke-Fula melodies. The album, which was produced by Kôré Sound, was compiled with the support and artistic assistance of the Kôré Cultural Center of Ségou. Poised between the contemporary and traditional, Mariam Koné promises to become one of the next great voices of Mali. Nelida Karr (Equatorial Guinea) : Nelida Karr (Nelida Ohia Car) is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who writes and plays her own songs. She is the daughter of a famous singer and comes from Equatorial Guinea, itself the epitome of a multicultural society. She has gradually incorporated the influences of modern music such as Gospel, Afro-Cuban music, Jazz, Soul and Funk to create her own distinctive style. Nelida Karr sings in Spanish, but also uses local languages such as Bubi, Fang and Igbo. Nteko (Congo) : Nteko is from Brazzaville, Congo. Her style is influenced by traditional Congolese rhythms and she sings mostly in Kilongo, Lingala and French. Her music draws on Kongo traditions and she makes clever use of old sayings. She is accompanied by two acoustic guitars and creative percussions and is about to release her album “Cri”, in which she sings about Congolese society and issues with great reserve and humility. Sessimé (Benin) : Singer and songwriter Sessimé is considered one of the new stars of Afro-pop in her home country Benin and was nominated “Revelation of 2011”. Her album "Wazakoua" (an onomatopoeia meaning "let’s save the children"), has won several awards. Her style and especially her voice are very much in the spirit of her forbearer Angélique Kidjo. Smarty (Burkina Faso) : This young rapper from Burkina Faso has been making a name for himself in the world of Hip-hop for more than ten years by participating in several projects in Ouagadougou. Now he is launching his solo career with the release of his first album “AFRIKAN KOULEURS”. A master of wordplay, Smarty confronts modern rhythms with traditional instruments and provides an off-the-wall take on daily life. Teta (Madagascar) : After the release of his new opus “Any Aminao Any”, Teta has emerged as one of the great masters of Tsapiky (traditional music from South West Madagascar). Teta inherited his gift from music from his accordionist father. He has been steeped in Tsapiky culture since he was a young child and chose to specialize in the guitar at the age of 13. With this new album, which opens up to the music of the world, Teta has established himself as one of the great representatives of Malagasy music. Yvonne Mwalé (Zambia) : Yvonne Mwalé’s style and music convey a strong message and are influenced by a mixed cultural environment. She has been hailed by the public and media in Zambia. Her powerful, characteristic voice accompanied by African rhythms, jazz, blues and reggae, has established her as one of the Zambian music scene’s promising young artists.
