Content: ALERT LEVEL: A bushfire ADVICE remains in place people in the vicinity of Stokes National Park, west of Esperance, in the Shire of Esperance. The fire is burning in bushland in the Fanny Cover area on the eastern side of the park. The Department of Parks and Wildlife is working closely with neighbouring landowners and local volunteer bushfire brigades. Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date. WHAT TO DO: Be extremely careful when driving through the area. Turn your headlights on and drive slowly. Watch for emergency services personnel and follow their directions. If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your headlights and hazard lights on, and wait until the smoke clears. If you have a respiratory condition and you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222. ROAD CLOSURES: The access tracks to Fanny Cove, Shoal Cape and Moir Homestead have been closed. Motorists should avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site. RECREATION SITE CLOSURES: Fanny Cove, Shoal Cape and Moir Homestead are closed. The western side of the Park including Benwenerup camp, Stokes Inlet BUSHFIRE BEHAVIOUR: The fire is being contained within breaks but has burnt through 2300 hectares. WHAT FIREFIGHTERS ARE DOING: Fire crews from DPaW, the Forest Products Commission, contractors, local volunteer bushfire brigades and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services are continuing to strengthen boundaries and progressively have begun lighting up to take out unburnt pockets this afternoon. Two water bombers from Albany and Bunbury are assisting ground crews. The bombers will be held in Esperance overnight in case of any flare ups tomorrow. CAUSE: The cause of the fire is lightning.
