**WA** UPDATE Severe Weather Warning for destructive winds and abnormally high tides for people in the Goldfields, Eucla, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts Issued at 5:26 pm WST on Monday 8 September 2014. For people in parts of WA southwest of a line from Lancelin to Hyden to Norseman to Balladonia to Eyre. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Perth Metropolitan area, Mandurah, York, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Narrogin, Katanning, Albany and Esperance. Weather Situation A second cold front current over the southwest corner of the state is expected to cause WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. In isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. DAMAGING winds are occurring about the Southwest district and adjacent South Coastal district and will extend north to the Perth Metropolitan area by around 6pm and Esperance by around 8pm. Conditions will ease from the west after 9pm Monday night, including over the Perth Metropolitan area, Mandurah, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River and Bridgetown. Gusty winds will persist however until early Tuesday morning. Thunderstorms and small hail are possible along southern coastal parts until early Tuesday morning. Tides will be higher than normal. DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS are likely and may cause some beach erosion. The following severe wind gusts have been reported: 111 kilometres per hour at Cape Leeuwin at 1:50 pm. 102 kilometres per hour at Cape Naturaliste at 2:06 pm. 94 kilometres per hour at Busselton Jetty at 2:18 pm. 117 kilometres per hour at Cape Leeuwin at 3:10pm. 96 kilometres per hour at Rocky Gully at 4:21 pm. This cold front is following an earlier front that has produced severe weather across a large part of southern WA. These two strong cold fronts are expected to produce the kind of weather that is only seen once or twice a year over southern WA. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 8:30 pm WST Monday.
