WAKE UP TO THIS AMAZING FORGOTTEN FRIEND: STRIPEY! Stripey the Wonder Dog, a 2 year old Dalmatian mix, was originally brought to AWSOM almost exactly one year ago as a stray. He was quickly adopted in December 2012 but sadly returned in January 2013. Stripey was adopted again in May 2013 and returned again in July and has been here ever since, waiting for the family truly meant for him. There is something very special about our Wonder Dog. We love him so much and he is easily one of our favorites. In fact, volunteers will rush to the shelter for our Thursday night dog walks just to get there first to be the one to walk Stripey. He is a very gentle soul and radiates such a serene and calming presence that we use him to test the personalities of new AWSOM residents. There has not been one dog that we have introduced to that he hasnt gotten along with. And weve put hyper active, scared, shy dogs with him and within minutes they are at ease with him and they are interacting like old friends. Stripey is as gentle as a lamb with dogs and people alike, and is the perfect companion dog. Hes super affectionate and loves to lay on the ground with you, belly up, tongue out, totally immersed in all the love hes receiving. Hes a kisser, a hugger and a super duper cuddler. Have a couch, instant couch potato. Have a bed, instant spooner. Stripe is excellent on the leash and is one of the dogs that we pair up with first time volunteers because hes such a good boy. One day a volunteer was walking our Wonder Dog when she tripped and fell. What did Stripey Boy do? He rushed to her side, bent down and began kissing her face to make sure she was okay. Can you feel the astounding compassion and unconditional love that this boy has inside of him? Oh and hes really smart... like really smart. He knows all the basic commands and weve no doubt that he can be trained for just about anything. Stripe loves to sit in the back seat of a car, just hanging out, enjoying the adventure. He just loves to play with toys of any kind, on his own, with people or with other dogs. He finds simple and pure happiness in having a toy in his mouth, flipping it in the air, chasing it and doing it all over again. Its so beautiful to see him be fully present to the joy he finds in every day. Really, how many of us can do that? Now we all have quirks and our Stripey is no exception. He doesnt like to be bothered while hes eating, either by people or other dogs. (Treats are no problem, its just when he eats from his food dish). No worries here though. The common sense solution is to simply put his dish down and leave him alone. If you have another dog in the house, feed them separately. Problem solved. Stripey is neutered, UTD on shots, micro-chipped, house trained and ready for his forever family to find him. He gets along with other dogs but a meet and greet with an existing dog is a must. We dont recommend any children under 10 and a meet and greet with the whole family is recommended. This boy deserves to be loved, spoiled and cherished forever. He is truly one of the most extraordinary dogs weve had the honor of caring for. But its time for him to move on to his forevermore. We love him so much and will miss him terribly but it has to be his time now. It just has to. He has to ride off to forever with the family meant for him. In our hearts, we know why our boy hasnt found his lifetime family yet. Its because hes been waiting for YOU!
