WALKING IN THE LIGHT 19: Esther 5:6-7 His ways may appear stupid and insulting Imagine yourself as a Jew in the kingdom of Babylon. Just consider the fact that one of your own has been raised to the highest position as the queen. Then an enemy has arisen who is doing all he can to bring your entire race down to death. All of a sudden, you hear that the queen, one of your own, in the midst of your cries and difficulties have organised a great banquet. She has invited the most hated enemy of your people, the Jews. To add salt to injury, you hear that she has invited him again for another meal the next day. How will you see Esther; what will you say about her; can you ever be patient and be kind in words as you discuss her in the market squares? This is what the ordinary Jew might have felt as he/she heard of two banquets by Esther at a time when all have prayed with her and were expecting a “better” action from her. And not just banquets for herself and few people, but also with an invitation to Haman, the most wanted enemy who is causing all their troubles. What might have been hidden from all was that Esther was doing all that for the general good of her people and race. God easily write straight in crooked lines. He makes some things happen that look so stupid and insulting. We may see the just suffering and the wicked rejoicing and getting more successes. But God knows why things happen the way they happen. We only need to keep trusting God and relying on him in all instances of life. Let us keep praying and hoping even when all things seem to be working contrary to our expectations. The truth remains that, “In his own time, God does all things beautiful”.
