WALKING IN THE LIGHT OF GOD …. a scriptural guide to daily fellowship with God Rev. Ademola Afolabi Vol. 3 April– June 2013 FRIDAY JUNE 29 2013 WHERE ARE WOMEN LIKE ABIGAIL? “AND DAVID SAID TO ABIGAIL, BLESSED BE THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL, WHICH SENT THEE THIS DAY TO MEET ME; AND BLESSED BE THY ADVICE, AND BLESSED BE THOU, WHICH HAST KEPT ME THIS DAY FROM COMING TO SHED BLOOD, AND FROM AVENGING MYSELF WITH MINE HAND” 1 SAMUEL 25: 32-33 BIBLE READING: 1 SAMUEL 25: 23-27 This Abigail was like the virtuous woman described in Proverbs 31: 10-31 whose worth is above precious rubies. Aside her beauty, Abigail was an intelligent woman, tactful and gifted with words of comfort. It is a pity her husband, Nabal did not realize the worth of his wife. But for Abigail, Nabal could have lost everything he had and die by the sword in the hands of David and his men. Nabal was a wealthy but selfish and miserly man who repaid David’s kindness with insult. David was determined to avenge the insult by wiping out Nabal and his entire household. Abigail quickly moved in to save the situation, she pacified David and save her family and husband from David’s sword of vegenance. But most importantly, she prevented David from avenging himself and shedding innocent blood. A woman of wisdom, Abigail waited for Nabal to get over his drunkenness before she told him the wrong he did to David. Nabal later died from the hand of God, and Abigail became David’s wife. Do we have women like Abigail that can save their family from embarrassing situation? Are there women tactful enough like Abigail to know when and how to show their husband the right thing to do? Abigail pleaded for her husband before David, are there women like Abigail praying for their husbands? We need more women like Abigail, filled with the spirit of God to strengthen their family and the Church of God. Are you a woman like Abigail? NUGGET: “SHE WILL DO HIM GOOD NOT EVIL, ALL THE DAYS OF HER LIFE” PROVERBS 31: 12
