WAR AGAINST BOKO HARAM PROGRESSING – ADEFUYE — Oct 16, 2014 The Nigeria’s Ambassador to the United States, Professor Adebowale Adefuye has told the international community of the plans of the federal government to curb Boko Haram and other acts of terror in the country. Speaking at the just-concluded Global Town Hall Meeting which was held at the Nigerian Embassy Washington DC, yesterday, Ambassador Adefuye used the medium to inform participants that the federal government was still battling to return the abducted Chibok school girls to their families safely. He further said that there was no iota of truth in the claims from some quarters that the fate of the abducted students had become worse as a result of a purported slowness of the government to act on the incident. Briefing participants at a well-attended meeting, Adefuye noted that the federal government had done what every responsive government would have done to ensure that the captives regain their freedom. The ambassador however faulted those politicizing the abduction, saying that such act was not good for Nigeria’s democracy. “What again do they want the president and members of his administration to do that they had not done since the students were kidnapped?” he asked. He also noted that there was no way the activities of Boko Haram would spoil the diplomatic relationship between Nigeria and the United States, stressing that, instead, the American government was fully ready to support its Nigerian counterpart in its quest to curb the insurgents. On the forthcoming 2015 general elections, Adefuye stated that President Goodluck Jonathan had promised free, fair and bloodless polls. ”I see no reason why anyone will doubt Mr. President’s promises to make the elections the most remarkable in the history of Nigeria,” the diplomat said.
