***WARNING - LONG POST ALERT** I have never put my story out here or even thought I had a story to share. Ive been thinking a lot about myself lately and have discovered a few things. Ive had a few life changing events in the last five years, some good and some bad. I went to counseling to help myself through them for over a year and that seemed to help, but it wasnt a long term fix for me. I stayed in the house, not attending social events, not talking to friends, not exercising, etc. I became very depressed and started taking anti-depressants, playing with dosages and brands. I had two major surgeries in two years with long recovery times. I was bedridden for one of them, having surgery on both feet and stuck in bed while my husband went to work and my son to school. I was home all day watching movies and Netflix became my best friend. I felt so helpless. I couldnt clean house, do laundry, cook, or even shop for groceries. I gained quite a bit of weight after all of this and decided to start exercising again. I started with the Jillian Michaels DVDs and took up running. I love running but unfortunately it looks like I wont be able to pursue it as a hobby anymore due to compressed disks and arthritis. Yes, aging is not always fun! I actually injured my back running and had to go through a few rounds of physical therapy and then I tried it again. Back to physical therapy I went. I couldnt exercise during any of this because of the back pain I had. I was following this lady on Facebook and she was into health and fitness. I was so intrigued by her and her journey that she shared with everyone. When she announced there was a new workout video coming out and was looking for people to join her group, I wanted to do it but couldnt bring myself to send her a message. I went back and forth with my husband about it and finally decided to type the message and press send. My heart was racing, but I did it. I purchased a challenge pack with a program in it, 21 Day Fix. My husband did the workouts with me every day and followed the meal plan. I could feel myself changing, both inside and outside. That was one year ago! Ive become a better person because of her and her support and guidance on my journey. I want to pay it forward and help others. You never know how great youll feel until you give it a shot. Remember, its never too late to make a change.
