WARNING Alabama Patriots and Friends: DECATUR, Ala. (WAAY) - WAAY just received the following alert from the Decatur Police Department: UPDATE: News Conference: 1300 teachers and students relocated during the evacuation. Schools looking at how to transport students later today. This was a precautionary action taken by the schools. Once students have cleared from the schools, the bomb squad will move in and x-ray the device to confirm explosive or not. At that time we will make the call. They will not attempt to disarm the device until then. UPDATE: Estimated potential danger zone is 25 miles. Current weather conditions indicate that the greatest danger area would be to the northeast should an explosion occur. The intersection of State Docks Rd and Highway 20 West can be used as a reference point. A suspicious device has been found attached to a rail car at the Daiken facility on Hwy 20 in Decatur. The rail car contains hazardous material. The following schools are being dismissed immediately: Julian Harris Leon Sheffield Benjamin Davis Woodmeade West Decatur Decatur Campus of Calhoun Community College and the Alabama Center for the Arts are being closed at 10:00 a.m: Students, staff and faculty have been instructed to leave immediately and to travel away from the Decatur area. The following schools are being dismissed at 10:30: West Morgan High School West Morgan Middle School West Morgan Elementary School Any students who cannot be picked up at 10:45 will be taken to Danville High School. All other Decatur Schools will have a liberal check-out policy. The following Limestone County Schools are being evacuated to Ardmore High School & Cedar Hill Elementary: Clements & Tanner High Schools and Blue Springs Elementary The following Lawrence County schools are being evacuated: East Lawrence High, Middle and Elementary schools. Students are being taken to the Moulton Coliseum Decatur Police, Decatur Fire, Huntsville Bomb Squad and the FBI are on scene.
