****WARNING KIAMA RESIDENTS***** Please share and tag please share and tag Residents warned as Jerrara Dam at Kiama reaches Amber Alert 25 June 2013, 6:26PM AET Jerrara Dam at Kiama is on the rise due to the heavy rainfall that has been soaking the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Tablelands today. The dam reached Amber Alert this afternoon and residents downstream of the dam are being door knocked by the NSW SES to prepare for possible evacuation. A Dam Failure Evacuation Warning has been issued click here and Kiama Unit are door knocking the 10 or so properties below the dam wall. For those residents downstream of Jerrara Dam, this alert means you should prepare to evacuate. To prepare for possible evacuation you should: Raise belongings by placing them on tables, beds and benches. Put electrical items on top. You may be able to place light weight items in the roof space. Collect together medicines, personal and financial documents, mementos and photos If possible, check to see if your neighbours need help Make arrangements for care of pets or other animals, or take your pets with you when youevacuate Take three days’ supply of clothing and medicines Find out where to turn off the electricity and gas Continue to listen to a local radio station for updates Don’t walk ride or drive through floodwaters – this is the main cause of death and injury For emergency help call the NSW SES on 132500.
