WARNING ON OSTEOPOROSIS The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has labelled Osteoporosis as the Silent Disease in a recent report. It affects 15% of women and 3% of men aged over 50. Osteoporosis has no obvious symptoms, but can be avoided or delayed by getting the required amount of calcium and vitamin D as well as being physically active and not smoking. WIth an increasing number of Australians, particularly those aged over 50, at risk of developing osteoporosis and sustaining a bone fracture its important to talk to your doctor about the risk of osteoporosis.
