WATCH OF HONOR I was deeply honored to travel to Boston and stand Fire Watch Duty today for fallen Boston Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy. In addition to be ing a Boston Firefighter, FF Kennedy earned the title of United States Marine and is a Combat Veteran and also a member of the American Infidels Motorcycle Club. Since his arrival at the Funeral Home, FF Kennedy is being guarded 24/7 by his brothers and today there were five of us in the detail taking our turn. It was cold and rainy but no one flinched. I was struck by the citizens, rich and poor, black and white who would pass by and take the time to say a prayer or make the sign of the cross or bow their heads. Many of them had tears in their eyes. What also stood out is as a vivid memory was the sights and sounds of the Boston Fire Department Ladder Trucks and Engines that raced by with lights and sirens blaring at least five times in just one hour going to their next mission....and the looks on the Firefighters faces as they passed by. They looked ashen, tired, and sad. But they all looked Proud and Determined and Ready. Each time they went by, they looked us in the eyes and gave us the thumbs up...and I secretly hoped and prayed that they would make it back alive. May God bless the men and women of the Boston Fire Department and care for their fallen and injured.
