WATCH: Phoenix Nights star Smug Roberts heads to Liverpool Comedy Cellar COMEDIAN and actor Smug Roberts is heading for the Liverpool Comedy Cellar this weekend. Defining the Mancunian funnyman in one sentence, let alone one word, is Mission: Impossible. He had a range of jobs – from pub landlord to football coach – before trying stand-up comedy in the mid-1990s at Manchester’s Frog and Bucket club. WATCH: Smug Roberts’ showreel Rising up alongside his local pals Peter Kay and our own Johnny Vegas, he mixes comedy with an acting career which embraces both television and films include the hugely popular Bafta award winning TV shows Mrs Brown’s Boys, Buried, Cold Feet, Phoenix Nights (Peter Kay) and the films Looking For Eric and 24 Hour Party People.
