WATCH THE VIDEO: MANILA - A homeless woman in Barangay Bagumbayan, Taguig garnered interest after she turned out to be carrying lots of cash in local and foreign currency. Initial DZMM reports said a local health worker, Remedios Tenorio, saw and asked the woman, identified as Carmelita Bernasor, where she was going. When she gave conflicting answers, barangay workers brought the woman to the barangay hall so she could get cleaned up. The report said Bernasor was urged to get a bath and clean up. Barangay workers then searched her bag, which was placed on a stroller, to look for a change of clothes. The workers then found bundles of cash and coins, 2 cellphones, lighters and some jewelry inside a pillow case. The report said the cash was in separate bundles and in different denominations, from 20-peso to 100-peso bills. There was also some foreign currency inside the pillow case. Barangay workers counted the money, which totaled P69,000. An ID found on her belongings showed that she is a resident of Malibay, Pasay. Workers tried to contact a relative whose number was indicated on the ID, but the number could not be contacted. In an interview, Bernasor said she used to live in Malibay but had to move because her house was torn down. She also told radio dzMM that she no longer has any relatives. Asked where she got the money, she said: Binuksan ko yung aking alkansya sa lata. Barya po, limang piso tapos sampung piso. Nagtinda tinda po ako ng balut, sotdrinks, merienda... DZMM correspondent Henry Atuelan, however, said Bernasor gave conflicting statements, saying she used to sell coconuts. A representative of Taguig City Hall said the woman will be turned over to the local social welfare office.
