WB Govt averts a major disaster at Chatterjee International Centre by using latest disaster management techniques. September 02, 2014 WATCH VIDEO : youtu.be/J2COjEk522A ======================================= A major accident was successfully averted by the timely response of the West Bengal Fire Service Department and the scanning done by the newly acquired drone of the Kolkata Police that circles the skies of central Kolkata. Fire engulfed the 15th and the 16th floor of the iconic Chatterjee International Building on Jawaharlal Nehru Road. The Fire Department and Police personnel rushed to the spot and rescued four people who were trapped inside the building. The fire was brought under control in less than 3 hours. The newly acquired hydraulic cranes were also effectively used by the Fire Department officials to douse the fire. West Bengal Chief Minister Ms Mamata Banerjee, who is currently in Kalimpong, was monitoring the situation since morning. She spoke to the Mayor of Kolkata, who was at the spot and asked him to take necessary steps. She congratulated senior minister of the state cabinet, Mr Aroop Biswas, Minister for Disaster Management, Mr Javed Ahmed Khan, the Mayor of Kolkata, Mr Shovan Chatterjee and the Kolkata Police Commissioner for successfully averting a major disaster. Mr Javed Ahmed Khan, who was at the spot since morning, said, The fire is under control and we have rescued four people, who were trapped in the building, with the help of hydraulic ladder. They had breathing problems because of the smoke. We have sent them to the hospital.
