WCHE NEWS - The Pennsylvania Department of Health is renewing its Potassium Iodide distribution program this week. Radio PAs David Payne reports, the distribution will take place this Tuesday for those whose pills have a December 2014 expiration date. Potassium Iodine, or KI, can help protect the thyroid gland from the effects radiation during a nuclear accident. Public health physician, Dr. Glenda Cardella, says it’s for those who live, work, or go to school within a 10 mile radius of one of the five plants; The Beaver Valley Power Station, Limerick Generating Station, Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station, Susquehanna Steam Electric Station, and Three Mile Island Generating Station.
