WCMF Friday Night: (1) the sound system had me smh for the entire time I was in the park and I know some of the performers must have been pissed about it as well. Particularly during MMHDs set, there was a 10-15 minute period where the bass on the main speakers completely disappeared. Wtf is that?! When the bass came back on it was distorted, noisy and very distracting. And lets not talk about the mid-range and the highs. No matter whatever else we try to include, the bottom line for a music festival (apart from an amazing performance) is the sound quality, and ours just wasnt top notch last night. The decision makers need to get licks for compromising the shows standard like that. (2) Imo, MMHD is taking this playback thing too seriously now. For the better part of the show he sang over what sounded like full studio recording and to me, that is unacceptable. However I dont know if thats how he always performs on a big stage and in any case, 97% of the audience didnt seem to mind one bit. I hope our local bands dont follow this trend, because to my mind, it takes away from the authenticity of the live performance. Recordings during a live set should be limited to background vocals and rhythm beds to make the performance fuller - not the entire lead vocal performance. Smh. (3) I didnt see much of TKays performance, but they sounded good. I heard they looked good as well, so kudos to them for stepping up their game.
