•WDURK Sports• Wilmington, North Carolina First game of the year. No outs. Top of the first inning. Lets go Lucy, Lets Go! Lets go Lucy, Lets Go! Chanted her team and crowd. This was the most anticipated at bat of Cape Fears young season. Since the preseason, the blogs, the TBall forums online, ESPN, Grantland, Bleacher Report, have been a buzz with wishful wondering. Does she really have what it takes? Can she handle the pressure? Is she as good as we have all heard? Well, the tall Lefty showed us she can live up to ALL the hype. She stood in the box, hand out stretched to let the ump know she needed a second as she dug in. She eyeballed the pitcher, as if to let him know that if he laid it in her wheel house she would make him pay. The first pitch. High and inside, a classic brushback or as they call it in the Bigs... Chin Music. Lefty Louie, smirked and dusted herself off. She wouldnt be shaken by a zero mile an hour heater upstairs... No way. You could almost hear her thinking, Gonna have to earn this K pitch! So determined. So focused. Then the pitcher made a mistake that hes gonna have on a highlight reel of horrors, in his nightmares, for the rest of his putrid career. He basically Teed it up for Number Nine. A screamer up the middle. She crushed it. The hit, while impressive, wasnt the only highlight of the at bat.... The kids got speed. Like lightning, Louie legged out the long ball. Id say 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs is a nice way to start your career. Lucy and her team, an all girls team in an all boys league, crushed the opposition tonight showing that indeed boys do in fact drool and girls most certainly rule. We here at WDURK will be keeping an eye on Cape Fear all season and Lefty Lucy Durkin for the rest of her Hall Of Fame campaign. -WDURK Chief TBall Analyst- Proud Dad Durkin
