WE HAVE NAAC GRADE B After 27 years of existence, the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University (PSTU) has at last got National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC ) recognition. A peer committee from the NAAC has visited the University from May 15 to 17 this year and held a detailed study. Based on the report submitted by the committee the institution was accorded ‘B’ Grade, according to Prof Elluri Shiva Reddy, Vice Chancellor. This was one among the 38 institutions from across India that were given accreditation status at a meeting held on July 8. Telugu University was established on December 2, 1985 through an Act of Legislation. Former Chief Minister NT Ramarao, who was instrumental in setting up of the University, was the first chancellor. The University was one of the very few language and fine arts varsities in the country. Commenting on the variety and range of courses offered at the University, the NAAC team said that PSTU was a varsity with a difference. A university without regular courses in sciences and humanities is rare and the state government shall fund it in a big way, it remarked. As many as 69 different courses in music, dance, literature, astrology, journalism are being offered at the university. Expressing his satisfaction over NAAC grading, Prof Shiva Reddy said this would enhance the reputation and popularity of the varsity. We will do our best to improve the quality aspect and I asked the entire faculty to focus on revising the syllabus so as to attract the younger generation.
