The CFA is an exciting program designed to give you an up-close, detailed and interactive look at your fire department. You will learn about every aspect of f...ire rescue – budgeting, training, 911-dispatch, aero-medical, special operations, emergency medical service, fire suppression and more. ACADEMY INFORMATION The Citizen Fire Academy is a seven-week behind the scenes interactive program to learn what your Fire Rescue Department does. You will meet with personnel, see appartus, participate in live demonstrations and much more! We meet on Wednesdays at 5:30 PM. Each session will last from one to two hours depending on the subject. Week One - Meet the Fire Rescue Chief & staff - Department overview - Tour of the emergency operations and 911-call centers Week Two - Hazardous Materials Team - Special Operations Team - Fleet Services/Logistics Week Three - Reserve and Explorer programs - Fire Prevention - Live fire demonstration Week Four - Fire Station tour - Vehicle extrication demonstration Week Five - Ocean Rescue Week Six - Advanced Life Support (EMS) Week Seven - Recap & Graduation! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q. Will I learn how to become a firefighter? A. No – this program is designed to explain all aspects of Martin County’s award winning Fire Rescue department, not actually teach firefighting skills. Q. Will there be any physically demanding activities during the academy? A. No – During the course students will have the opportunity to put on firefighting gear and other similar activities but they are strictly optional. Q. Who will teach the classes? A. During your 7 weeks with us you will interact with many members of the department. All of the classes are taught by Fire Rescue personnel. Q. Is there a cost to the program? A. The program is absolutely free to the student. In addition there is no cost to the taxpayer because the program utilizes on duty crewmembers as well as off duty personnel who volunteer their time to teach. Q. Will I have fun? A. YES!!!
