WE MAY NOT REALIZE IT, BUT WITH WHAT WE SAY AND HOW WE SAY IT WE - TopicsExpress

WE MAY NOT REALIZE IT, BUT WITH WHAT WE SAY AND HOW WE SAY IT WE CAN CURSE OURSELVES We have spoken many times about how others can curse us and how we can curse others. But how about the times when we curse ourselves? This too occurs. It happens most often when we sin. Something is done thats wrong and later we have a run of bad luck. Recently there was a college football team that saw this, at least in our minds. Its a team that has won two national championships in recent years (three altogether) and sends many young athletes to the National Football League. Two years ago one of the players from this team, now in the pros, was arrested for committing a murder. We Are Not Enough in Awe of GodIt turns out he had also been in serious scrapes with the law as a college student -- issues that were covered over because he was so valuable to the team. That team soon lost the coach, who experienced great problems, and after having a season in which it won eleven and lost just two, suddenly, with many of the same players, including the quarterback, went on a skid that saw them lose to colleges they would usually beat by forty points, posting a four-and-eight (4-8) record in a season during which it experienced an astonishing number of major injuries followed by a second dismal year that led to the firing of another coach. The ball always bounced the other way. Twenty-three players missed games due to injury. Seventeen suffered season-ending injuries. This was in 2013. The program was in shambles, and its basketball team also struggled through a strange run of injuries or suspensions for conduct. Even students mentioned a curse! What goes around comes around, and we see this in our lives. When were jealous of others, jealousy comes back to haunt us. When we backstab, we are backstabbed. When we dabble with the occult (including things like astrology), this has a bite. When we curse others (often unknowingly) it comes back to us -- some day, somehow -- like a boomerang. Things may go fine for a while, but not in the long-term. Scripture says a curse without cause does not alight (Proverbs), but when we curse others there is that cause. Do you speak yourself into failure? We also curse ourselves when we say, This makes me sick, or you make me sick. We can bring on illness that way. Saying Its a pain in the neck may bring pain. We may say, Ill be d---ned. Thats not exactly a good luck charm. We can curse others in ways we dont mean by saying Go to h-ll or especially G-d d---n it. Using the Lords Name in vain -- uttering the Name of Jesus as a curse -- has serious consequences. The Blessed Mother warned precisely about this (using the Name of Jesus as a curse) in the Church-approved messages of LaSalette, France. She said employing such language would bring sickness and famine (which it did)! Does every sin or imperfection immediately lead to consequences? No. Its not how the spiritual world works. Sometimes its instant, sometimes a delayed reaction. In fact, we may even have good luck after doing something wrong, because the devil is anointing us; he may give us peace about it. But that peace and good luck will eventually and usually quickly unravel. Too frequently, we have trouble recognizing it. Are there untold curses in your life? Do you curse yourself? Do you tell yourself you cant do a certain thing? Do you give up too easily? This too -- negativity -- can subject you to failure, playing into the enemys hands. Make a New Years resolution not to. Let 2015 be the Year of Discipline. Is there hidden sin? Here is the value of Confession, especially at this time of the year. Confession with true contrition and expiation can break the curse of darkness that is self-imposed, opening up vistas you didnt even know were there.
