WE MUST NOT SIN WILLINGLY *The sin we permit may lead us into the sin we would never expect* We must make it our aim not to sin. Our firm intention must be to not sin willfully. But for now we need to know that commitment to a life of Holiness without exception is a requirement for consistently making the right choices. There is no point then in praying for God’s help in the face of temptation if we have not made a commitment to obedience without exception. To take an oath is when a person sincerely intends to do what he or she says making a commitment of the highest level. If we do not make such a commitment to obedience without exception, we will constantly find ourselves making exceptions. We will have a just one more time syndrome in our lives. But the truth is the “one more time” manner of thinking undermines our commitment. It makes it easier to give into the next time. Read PSALM 51 JESUS IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN “SET US FREE” Augustine (AD 354-430) Looking back, Augustine gave this account of his struggle: “I was bound by the iron chain of my own will. I was rather an unwilling sufferer than a willing actor. And yet it was through me that habit had become an armed enemy against me, because I had willingly come to be what I unwillingly found myself to be.” *If will fail to teach that discipline is by Grace, people will assume, As I did, that it is by performance. *Reputation-It’s what you are when people are around. *Character-It’s what you are when no one is around.
