WE NEED PEOPLE TO ATTEND THIS MEETING!!!!!!!! HELP!!!!! As some of you are aware, a portion of the Great Lakes Poultrys 85 acres has been confirmed to be located in the County area, therefore the Town of Kingsbury has no local jurisdiction on what goes in there. We as citizens of the community can voice ourselves to the County and question why they are not making them apply for a special exception or a variance to build this structure. As per the LaPorte County Permitted Uses, a CFO(Confined Feeding Operation) is not permitted in a M2 Zone and only permitted by Special Exception in a Agricultural Zoned area and a Slaughterhouse is only permitted by Special Exception in a M2 Zoned Area. The county building commissioner is stating that since a Locker Plant is Permitted in M2 Zone that this storage tank should be allowed in a M2 zoned area. Unfortunately the County does not have a clue what Great Lakes Poultry is nor have they looked at the IDEM application where it specifically states that they are a Slaughterhouse. The County Commissioners have their meeting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 6th at 10:00 AM at the County Complex Meeting Room #3. Public comment is at the end of the meeting. The meeting typically last a hour to a hour and a half. I would encourage everyone to be there to voice their opinions and concerns to why the county is letting them build this structure without even have to get a building permit nor having to get a variance, special exception and make them go through the proper channels because the Attorney for the Building Commissioners and the Building Commissioner dont understand what they are building out there. They were approved by statue from IDEM to build the tank. Its up to local authorities to enforce local rules as per Jeff Harmon, of IDEM. So IDEM does not superseded local zoning. THIS IS NOT JUST A KINGSBURY PROBLEM EITHER!!!! They own hundreds of acres throughout the county they intend on applying their nasty smelling poultry waste to!!!!
