WE develop self esteem as we help others find a new way of life[BT,p.96,5th ed.] As an individual,I have absolutely no control over whether or not the people I carry the message to accept or reject that message. As an addict,its easy to isolate and/or separate ourselves from others when they reject that message. My job,however,isnt to get others clean,but to carry the message of how recovery has worked for ME. When someone finally GETS it,or when they show a willingness and/or interest in my message,it boosts the self esteem and not only helps me feel better about myself, but provides a feeling of being worthwhile and useful,feelings alien to my being when in active addiction. So,just for today,I will have faith in members ability to stay clean whom I can help find a new way to live ;)
