WEATHER BULLETIN NUMBER NINE TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT: TYPHOON “#OmpongPH” ISSUED AT 10:30 AM, 11 OCTOBER 2014 (Valid for broadcast until the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today or earlier) Typhoon “OMPONG” continues to move towards the northern boundary of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). LOCATION OF EYE/CENTER: At 10:00 AM today, the eye of Typhoon “OMPONG” was located based on all available data at 840 km East Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes (24.8°N, 128.8°E). STRENGTH: Maximum sustained winds of 165 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 200 kph. MOVEMENT: Forecast to move North Northwest at 13 kph. FORECAST POSITIONS: Typhoon “OMPONG” is expected to be outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this afternoon and at 1000 km Northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by tomorrow morning. - Estimated rainfall amount is from 7.5 – 25 mm per hour (heavy – intense) within the 600 km diameter of the typhoon. - “OMPONG” is enhancing the northeasterly to northwesterly winds over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the westerly to southwesterly winds over the eastern seaboard Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas resulting to rough to very rough sea conditions over the aforementioned areas. Fisherfolks and those using small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the said seaboards. - The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 PM today or earlier.
