WEATHER: Get on the weather roller coaster one more time. High of 64° today dropping to 27° tonight. The winds will get in around lunchtime as the cooler air moves into the midstate causing a rapid temperature drop. Rain possible today. COMMENTARY: HB1909. When Tennesseans spring forward into daylight-saving time next month, they will never fall back into standard time again under legislation that has cleared its first step toward passage in the General Assembly. As amended in the House State Government Subcommittee, the bill simply declares that Tennessee will drop out of the ritual of moving clocks forward an hour each year on the second Sunday in March, then back again on the first Sunday in November. The bill takes effect on July 1 and, since daylight-saving time will be in place on that date, the effect will be making daylight-saving time permanent, The bill is scheduled for a vote this week in the full House State Government Committee. Of course there are a couple of dem’s that oppose the move. Their argument is that in the fall border cities such as Bristol will be an hour ahead of their neighboring state. They say this will just create too much confusion. (You know sort of like Murfreesboro and Chattanooga being in different time zones year round). I don’t like getting up before daylight and coming home after dark. I just think folks general demeanor and outlook on life is better in the daylight. One could also argue that crime rates will drop because crooks love the cover of darkness. Me, I want to see your smiling face glistening in the sunlight. Good move Tennessee.
