WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA The data regarding temperatures for the week has changed yet again, but it is also showing us some potential relief late in next weekend. Yesterday I was talking about the fact that we did not get the ridge to set up in such a way as to give us temps near 105 for today. I also was saying we would be seeing temps in the mid to upper 90s by Tuesday. Well, here we are 24 hours later and the data says we will be near 100 or at 100 all the way through the work week. We do finally see some cooling coming for Sunday, but this will take us to the low 90s and that is actually normal temps for late July in Medford. As I said yesterday, Medford, Oregon in the summer is a hot place. Our high yesterday was 102 which is a tie for the hottest day of the year so far. It is likely that we will be right at 102 again today, maybe making it to 103. The thunderstorm situation is unchanged this morning as to when it starts in the area, but the chance for some thunderstorms has been extended through Saturday now for some parts of our region. Tuesday during the day the chance will be a slight one, and mostly down in Northern California as a system moves north from Baja California. Overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning we will see an increasing chance for storms across the area. Wednesday will be the best day for wider coverage of the storms, including in the Rogue Valley. On Thursday the thunderstorm chances will be much lower and if storms do form they will form over eastern Northern California, including the eastern side of Siskiyou County. In Southern Oregon, the thunderstorm chances will be highest in eastern Klamath County, and all of Lake County and those areas can expect to have the chance for a thunderstorm or two through Saturday now. I do expect that as the storms get going beginning on Tuesday, they are going to start out as dry storms so the risk for fires will be high. It is expected that the storms will be getting wetter as the day goes on Wednesday, but the risk for fire starts is going to remain. Sunday is where we will see a trough over the region and this will cool us down to normal temps, and drive the chance for thunder well to the east of our area.
