WEATHER SUMMARY FOR SOUTHERN OREGON AND NORTHERN CALIFORNIA The next system that will bring rain into the region is approaching this morning. It has slowed its forward progress and is loitering around off the Coast. Remnants of Hurricane Anna are bolstering what would otherwise be a rather minimal rainfall producer. Were it not for that, this would be mostly a cloud producer. It will bring the most rain to the Coastal areas of Oregon and Northern California. Looks like decent rains will fall from Douglas County north, and in the Cascades from Crater Lake north. The terrain of the mountains will help wring out moisture there so expecting to see better rainfalls. For areas inland, it looks like that is more likely to be the case. For Jackson and Josephine County this looks like a shower maker at best. I suspect some areas will stay dry. Not expecting any rain east of the Cascades from this one at all. Expect unsettled showery conditions to persist through the area until Thursday night. On Thursday night a strong system packing rains, and wind will sweep in ahead of a cold front. This will also still have moisture left over from Anna associated with it, so rainfall totals could get quite impressive. Look for rain to continue into Friday afternoon, and then a cold front sweeps in. The front will do several things. It will turn the rainfall into more showery activity. It will also destabilize the atmosphere so there will be a chance for thunderstorms after all for Friday afternoon and through the evening. And, it will drop snow levels in the mountains to as low as 4000 feet. This means that there will be travel impacts in the passes this weekend, and that might just include the Siskiyou Pass on I 5. Still working out the details on how much snow to expect, but better plan on there being enough to cause snowpacked and icy roads. By the way....this is the perfect time to announce that you will be able to hear me on KMED AM 1440 here in Medford with the Lithia Body and Paint Road and Weather report every Monday through Friday morning starting at 6:35 AM and being repeated periodically through 9:06 AM. I will give the latest road and weather conditions. And of course, the Bob Thomas Automotive Inc. Road Condition page on the website will provide the same information, but with much more depth. Friday is Halloween as I am sure you are aware. The forecast for trick or treating looks pretty miserable. Be planning for wet weather. If thunderstorms develop could even see some gusty winds and possibly small hail. Have your kiddos well prepared for this. Looking through the weekend, we will see showers continue with snow levels holding around 4000 - 4500 with lighter accumulations still happening at pass levels. Looking ahead to next week.....the storm door is staying open and we are expecting to see a major rain, wind, and mountain snow producer arrive somewhere around Wednesday - Thursday.
