WEB AND DIGITAL MEDIA SPECIALIST Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation, Office of Education and Public Engagement, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution Applications due November 1, 2013 The Jerome and Dorothy Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation (Lemelson Center) at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH) is recruiting for a Web and Digital Media Specialist to join the team. The Lemelson Center (invention.smithsonian.org) is dedicated to exploring invention in history and encouraging inventive creativity in young people. The Web and Digital Media Specialist will: • Assist with project management for the major renovation and expansion of the Lemelson Center website, including serving as a central point of coordination among Center staff, the website development contractor, NMAH New Media Office, and Smithsonian Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO); • Assist with project management for ongoing digital content development at the Center, including coordinating activities among the Center staff, the NMAH New Media Office, and Smithsonian Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO); • Conduct audio and video production and editing as well as provide other technical support for producing the Center’s exhibition videos, podcast series, blog, Facebook page, Twitter feed, and other digital content activities; • Prepare, publish, and maintain content on the Lemelson Center website and related digital content products in coordination with Center staff; • Manage the Center’s digital assets, including organizing all images and audio/video files and uploading selections to the NMAH digital assets management system; • Serve as the property manager for the Lemelson Center, including conducting regular inventories and overseeing equipment loans to Center staff; and • Generally assist with Lemelson Center programs and activities as requested. Applicants must demonstrate familiarity and understanding of website development, design, and publishing, including direct experience working in Drupal, as well as experience with audio and video production and editing, familiarity with educational uses of the web and social media, and organizational skills. The best qualified applicants will also demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills, have project management experience plus experience working on project teams, and have experience producing and developing educational digital content. This is a full-time, not-to-exceed 1-year Trust (non-Federal) Information Technology Specialist series position at IS-9, Step 1. (The position may be extended funds permitting.) The salary is $54,032 plus excellent benefits. Smithsonian does not pay job relocation expenses.
