WEB TURNS 25. When I saw that headline (see previous post) this morning I went into reflection mode. If you are over 40 - DO YOU REMEMBER: When you first heard about the Web? What on earth is that? When advertising and sales were discouraged on the Web? Dialing-up on your computer to connect to the Web. Waiting . . . . Trying to listen to an audio or watch a video on a dial-up connection? Getting a hand written letter from a friend or family member in the last 15 years? When the last time you sat down and wrote a letter in your handwritting to a friend or loved one? When opening the mail (snail) was a highlight of the day? When reading a book or the Bible actually meant holding it in your hand and turning the pages? When web meant something made by spiders not geeks? When face time meant being physically (not digitally) face to face with someone? When words like eBay, google, tweet, Facebook and email drew a blank stare rather than familiar nod? When amazon was just a river? When a telephone was JUST for talking? When an app was just part of a word? When only birds tweeted? What you did with all the time you now spend on the Web, Facebook, your smartphone or reading emails - before they ever existed? Yea! Its amazing when you stop and think about how much our lives have been changed by THE WEB!
