WEEK FIVE: JANUARY 26-31, 2014 PRAYER FOR PASTORS, MINISTERS, AND OTHER LEADERS IN THE CHURCH This week we focus on prayer for all pastors, ministers and leaders in the church. According to What the Bible Says to the Minister—A Minister’s Personal Handbook, they “have been given the greatest privilege and responsibility in all the world: called to be a minister of the living God.” Therefore, it is imperative that pastors, ministers, and leaders live lives that are exemplary and beyond reproach. The handbook further states, “God’s word tells you how to live and walk in Christ day by day. Consistency, obedience, faithfulness—are what God is after . . . and they must be the hallmarks of your life.” As zealous as Paul was in persecuting the church before his conversion, he was more zealous in preserving the church after his conversion. Time after time, Paul was falsely accused and had to defend himself and the gospel. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, was also falsely accused and had to defend His authority and His gospel. Just as both Jesus and Paul faced unfounded accusations and challenges in their day, pastors, ministers and other leaders face similar and greater challenges today. It is incumbent upon us to use not only this week of consecrated prayer and fasting to surround all of our leaders in prayer, but it is imperative that we keep them enveloped with prayer daily. Whether we lead, or are being led, we must all life a life worthy of Christ.
