WEEKLY ENGLISH UPDATE: Quieter week this week as Yael didnt bring us any megas (but we forgive her)...but still lots of migrants passing through. Park Holland is a great little place near home and there is always something going on there. This week I saw Sooty and Barbary Falcons hunting there, plenty of warblers,Whitethroats, Eastern Orpheans, a Barred warbler, Willow Warblers etc. Itai had a Wood Warbler near KM20 but otherwise a good flow of regular warbler migrants. At the ponds a lot of waders with Dunlins and Little Stints in big numbers. I had a friendly Curlew which isnt so common in Eilat. Today Itai and I travelled to KM76 to see what was happening.....answer: not much. A few Short-toed Larks, Wheatears, Shrikes low numbers nothing of interest. Nahal Yaalon is still a washout with just a few Eastern Olivaceous warblers hanging around. So we quickly headed off to Yotvata. Plenty of Hooded Wheatears on the way, north fields of Yotvata fairly empty...South Circular field packed! Hundreds of Short-toed Larks, Yellow Wagtails, tens of Isabelline and Black-eared Wheatears, Whinchats, Tawny Pipits, Swallows and Martins, Shrikes action every direction look. Two Montagu Harriers and a first Pallid Harrier for the season helped get the birds into the air to give us an idea of the numbers. A lone Booted Eagle watched from above. Finally we went to fill the lungs with some great smell of sewage...one nice Citrine Wagtail and a Purple Heron but not much else. Have a great week!
