WEEKLY NEWS The winner of the Christmas Hamper Competition on Sunday, sponsored by Regan’s Bar, was Richard Browne with 42 points (back 9) and John Walker was in second place with 42 points also. David Hill won the gross prize with 36 gross points and Jack Sharkey was third with 39 points. The Ladies’ Christmas Hamper competition, sponsored by O’Brien’s Mushrooms, was held on Saturday and the winner with a great score of 41 points was Marie McManus and Joan O’Gara was second with 36 points (back 9). In third place was Mary Seymour with 36 points also. The gross prize was won by Sinead Benedetti with 32 gross points. In fourth place was Carmel Walker with 35 points (back 9), in fifth place was Mary Jo O’Riordan with 35 points also and Marie Benedetti was in sixth place with 34 points. Congratulations to Joan Hannon winner of the Golfer of the Year 2013, sponsored by Mary Raftery Jewellers. The winner of the Over 55s on Thursday was Nicholas Scanlon, with Seamus Mulherne in second place and Eamon Smyth in third place. The winner of the ladies’ competition was Margaret Brennan. The AGM was held on Sunday and commenced with a minute’s silence in memory of deceased members. The outgoing President John Sweeney thanked all members for their support and courtesy during the year. He thanked especially all the members of committees who worked hard to ensure that the club offered a good service to the members. John expressed his appreciation of the sponsors who are so vital to the club and so faithful despite the difficult economic circumstances. He proposed Joan O’Gara as President for the coming year and she was elected with the unanimous support of all the members. The other officers elected were as follows: Management Committee – Hon. Secretary, Kate Walsh; Hon. Treasurer, Patrick Farnon; Committee Members, Terry O’Keeffe, John Cunningham and Oliver Dempsey. Committee Chairpersons - Hon. Registrar, Kay Ruane; New Members, Michael McHale; Green Fees, Gerry Keegan; Course, Ian Gannon; House, Nuala Costello, PRO/Marketing , Tom Costello. June Halliday was elected as a Trustee of the club to replace the late Kathleen Quinn who passed away during the last year. June joins Terry O’Keefe and John McGuigan who are the other trustees. The members of the Ladies Club are as follows: Captain, Bernie Browne; Vice Captain, Marie McManus; Secretary, Marina Dolan; Treasurer, Mary Cunningham; Committee Members, Joan O’Gara, Joan Moran, Sheila Fallon, Nuala Costello, Mary Seymour, Paula Keane and Nuala Hughes. The members of the Men’s Club are as follows: Captain, Albert Looby; Vice Captain, Ken Kearney; Secretary, Francis Ferguson; Treasurer, Kieran Madden; Committee Members, Alan Craven, Brian Feeley, Paul Hoare, Cathal McConn, Tony McManus, Albert O’Connor and John Walker. There is no change in members’ subscriptions for the coming year which means that the special offer of €200 for the first year of membership for people joining a golf club for the first time remains in place for another year. The incoming officers are committed to introducing more “fun” competitions during the year with greater emphasis on the social side of the club.
