WEEKLY NEWSLETTER Dear All, So much to tell you this week but as usual I will start with what is coming up. The nine hole weekly comp begins on Saturday – any nine any time Saturday is the February monthly medal and your last chance to qualify for the Summer final which will be played on Feb 22nd. Sunday is a medley par and Wednesday next a medley stableford. Yesterday 15 hardy souls played in the medley stableford and Al Rayner had an excellent 43 points to win easily from yours truly who was runner up in a four way count back with 34 points. The Twilight competition is set to begin next Thursday but we still require two teams. To date we have The RCAM team, The Pink Panthers and a new team in the Irymple Marauders confirmed, Mal is still chasing a couple of players for the Silvan Hot Shots and one more team would make it a good comp. So get your mates together and form a team- Twilight is played on a Thursday evening, hit off is from 5.30 – 6 pm and the nine holes is followed by a sausage sizzle or something similar after the game. Australia Day – the four person ambrose sponsored by H & R Block was fantastic. We had 145 in the field and a great time was had by all. Thanks to Neil Wilkie for all he puts into the day, Jill Eyles, Gary Wright and Deb Hassell for the eggs, Gary Wright and Kath Underwood for the tomatoes, Mark Bowring, Geoff Spangler, Russell Abraham and Andrew Bateman for cooking breakfast, Michael Timms, Carol Bateman, Russell Walsh and GBC Motors for keeping the field hydrated as they played, the beautiful and highly talented Lois Briggs (she told me to say that!), Denese Rohde, Sally Jones, Sandy Marwood, Peter Probert and Ray Rohde for the cooking and serving of the lunch, Klemm’s Newsagency and Craig Gursansky for the raffle prizes and Carmel and Leigh for all the work they do behind the scenes. Craig and Justin sold the raffle tickets and raised $560 which will go to the soon to be started Junior Coaching Program. Congratulations to all the winners who took home some great prizes. The junior (8 years and upwards) program begins on Wednesday March 5th at 4.15. Under the guidance of Rob Nichols a PGA Professional from the House of Golf it encompasses 12 sessions, some of which are a game with members on a Sunday morning. Our Junior Development Officer Catherine Lanigan is highly organised and by this time next week will have a flyer for you to give to any budding juniors who may like to come along. Catherine and Rob are using the “My Golf” program which is golf’s answer to Oz kick and kanga cricket etc. The cost for the program is $60 – about $5 a session. The Drummond Golf Challenge. This is played over eight rounds –one a month usually in conjunction with the monthly medals. You get one point juts for playing and then the top ten players in each round can score up to 10 extra points each round. At the end of the eight rounds our top three scorers unite for a three person ambrose in the final at Riverside on October 10th. If successful there its off to Melbourne at Drummond Golf’s expense to play a four person ambrose (you are joined by a pro) on one of the flash courses. The cost to enter is $20 and this money is divided up between the top four players at Red Cliffs at the end of the eighth round. From memory I think Sue Johns was our winner last year and won around $250. The first round is down for Feb 22nd so you have until then to enter, just see Ganon or Linda or myself. Match committee members on duty this week are Lloyd Hale and Sue Poole who will put the field out (the weather is going to be warm so it will be from 7.30 am), Gary Wright and Tom Minns are down to bring the field in. The bar will be operated on Sunday by Sandy Marwood, Craig Gursansky and Elaine Gray, thanks folks. The computer which runs the watering system has been down since last Friday so Simon, Daniel and Nev have had their work cut out doing it all manually. Simon would like to thank Garham Bamford, Keith Rogers, Peter George, Andrew (Rip Van Winkle) Wood, Choppa, Graeme Duffy and Geoff Smith for all there efforts in helping out. Hopefully the restored computer will be back in operation by tomorrow. You may have noticed some new umbrella’s keeping the field cool in front of the club house on Monday. These were purchased using money raised from “The Pig” so even if you haven’t won it yet just have a sit in the shade of an umbrella and reap some reward!. A couple of injuries this week, Paul Legg managed to cut his leg on one of the concrete pipes on the course, Bammy pulled a muscle trying to dodge a wayward ball yesterday and Louie Young managed to get his eye in the way of his driver and is sporting a black eye. Hope you are all better soon gents. Woody was going to get an early start watering the greens but somehow the messages were muddled and he was found asleep in his car in front of the shed when the boys arrived at work. Attached this week is the flyer for the concert on the course – please send it on to all your contacts and lets make Feb 28th a great night. That’s heaps for this week, Catch you on the course, Cheers, Mick
