WELCOME, THE MONTH OF GLORY. Welcome the month of the birthday of the Prophet The month of greatness and leadership The month of Prophet Ahmad The month of Rabi’ul Awwal! ~ Tahni’at. Permit me (the filthy Sharif) to welcome you with these lines, Ya Rasulallah. Welcome, O light of guidance Welcome, O easer of affairs Welcome, O the guiding helper, we welcome you. Welcome, O father of the believers, we welcome you, the long wait. Welcome, O bearer of glad tidings. Welcome, O peace and blessing of Allah. Welcome, O forgiveness and mercy of Allah, we welcome you. Welcome to us, though we are not qualified for your presence. Only you are the true servant of Allah. We are but yours. “Fidaaka Abii wa Ummii Ya Rasulallah” (May my father and mother be ransomed to you, O messenger of Allah). Imam Hafiz Ibn Katheer writes: “The Beloved Prophet had noble attributes and character from the time of his birth to the declaration of his Prophet-hood and until his demise. Such as: Truthfulness; Safeguarding the wealth entrusted to him; Charitable; Merciful; the one with Highest Piety; …Obedience to Allah Almighty in every situation and at all circumstances; ….being Absolute well-wisher of others; Lovely towards all; Affectionate; Helping the Needy; Sympathetic towards everyone, especially Orphans, Widows and the Helpless, etc.!” How beautiful and beneficial would it be, if we create these attributes in us? Especially in this month of the bearer of these attributes. It thus mean that, just as we intensify our prayers of peace and blessings upon the Holy prophet, we should as well be truthful in our words, safeguard the wealth entrusted to us, be more charitable, help the needy, be more sympathetic to the orphans more especially, and be well-wishers of others and above all be more obedient to Allah in every situation and at every circumstances. In celebrating Mawlid, if you cannot organize one as an individual, organize it as a group. If you cannot attend to all the gatherings, ensure you attend those organized close to you. If you cannot afford for the 100s, 1000s and millions in support for the Mawlid, just give out charity with what you have, If you cannot give out charity, give out beautiful smiles in celebrating him. Hold firm to reciting the Quran and sending prayers of peace and blessings upon him always. Put on the best of your attire and perfume yourself always. Don’t argue with them, just discuss his message, his character, his teachings, his miracles and his life history in general. Additionally, I would like us to put into practice the guiding statement of our guide (Muhammad Sallallaahu Alayhi wasallam) as we celebrate him. “O people! Spread the passing of Greetings to each other; feed people, be compassionate to others; and when the people sleep at night, offer your (voluntary) prayers such that you may peacefully enter the heavens.” This month isn’t a month for fight and insults, enmity or envy, sadness or pride, nor is it a month for laziness or sitting aloof. It is however a month of great struggle for peace and love, joy and happiness among us through the celebration of the master. Let’s celebrate in thankfulness for the priceless gift and mercy of Allah upon us. It is therefore my fervent hope that, every house, every masjid, every street, every school, college and university, every store and factory, every office and government department will shine with lights of happiness and rejoice in the person of the Prophet Sallallaahu Alayhi wasallam. Imam Mutawalli Sha`rawi said in his book, Ma’idat al-fikr al-islamiyya (p. 295), “If living beings were happy for his coming (to this world) and every inanimate creation was happy at his birth and all plants were happy at his birth and all animals were happy at his birth and all angels were happy at his birth and all believing jinn were happy at his birth, why are you preventing us from being happy at his birth?” Happy Mawlid! By the little, weak and insignificant servant at the door of the master of both worlds; Na-Annabi Sharif.
