WELL THAT WAS A NEW ONE.....NEARLY ARRESTED TODAY FOR FEEDING THE HOMELESS IN BRIGHTON.... HERES WHAT I SENT TO A REPORTER IN THE LOCAL RAG..today at around 3-30pm myself and four others where handing out food and clothing to six homeless people who where sitting on the benches opposite the theatre royal on new road Brighton as we have done for three years every Monday. as we doing this a police car pulled up besides us in a very intimidating way with its engine running and with the police officer saying nothing, they did this for a good ten minutes when one of the police officers got out of the car and beckoned me over , the officer as what we where doing so i explained we where giving out food etc to the homeless to which he proceeded to tell me that is was a good thing to give out food but i was not to give out any here as there had been a order 35?? to stop the homeless being on new road, because of problems with drunken behaviour and punch up etc etc to which i replied thats fine but where are the to go as their being moved on all day from Brighton. i got the impression that it wasnt his problem and in the end i lost my patience and walked of. so myself warned the homeless chaps that theyd better move on or they where going to get ticketed so they packed their stuff up as we did and walked of. we where walking off when two office ran to me demanding my name (details) to which i replied i havent done anything wrong and i wasnt going to give my name and went to drive off (im on a disability scooter (the homeless call me meals on wheels) so the response was to grab me by my arm and grab old of my scooter and switch it off and then threatened to arrest me with aiding and abetting anti social behaviour by handing out sandwichs to the homeless, i refused to give out my details because i believe its not a crime to give a cup of soup and clean socks to a homeless person is yet a crime the older officer repeated i would get arrested if i did not comply to which i replied go ahead arrest me, youll be arresting a disabled man for handing out food to the homeless butt they refused to let me leave standing in front of me the older one then went off to speak to his superiors this lasted over twenty minutes me sitting there not moving in the cold in a stand off, finally the older cop came back and said right my inspector has said hes giving you permission to go this one time but if you come here again youll be arrested under section 35 so am i now band from new road for life lols im a 51 disabled man with M.E. prolapsed discs and otiose-arthritis plus other illnesss who having been homeless once in my life now try and help others who need help... my self and friends pay for everything out of our own pockets or scrounge what we can. also there was four other people there(my friends) and they where not threatened with arrest or asked for their details just me how are we to know that such an order has been put in place and we where leaving as the homeless chaps where i strongly believed that as we where leaving the police handled the situation completely over the top and is the beginning to ban feeding the homeless in Brighton as it is in some parts of London
