WELSHPOOL ROTARY CLUB RACE THE TRAIN 2013 This years race the train took place on Sunday 15th September with 39 cyclists racing the Countess from Raven Square Welshpool to Llanfair Caereinion. Only 11 cyclists managed to beat the train this year in wet and windy conditions with the fastest cyclist being Bryn Davies from Forden getting to Llanfair in 34mins 45seconds. He was followed by Wayne Chance from Kerry in 37mins 50 seconds. Third home went to Peter Thomas of Ardleen in 38mins 20seconds. The train took 46mins 40seconds ahead of 28 of the entrants. The full results can be found at welshpooltowncouncil/RACETHETRAIN.htm The train was driven by Bruce Webber with Ilene Nibcock being firepeson assisted by Aaron. The guard was Roy Wilkinson. The race started with Cllr J Meredith Mayor of Welshpool waving the cyclists away while Cllr Hazel Davies Chair of Llanfair Town Council waved the chequered flag at the end. The train managed to beat over 50% of the cyclists this year so is the event winner, however the individual challenge was achieved by 11 brave cyclists with all the participants completing the course in a quicker time than the slowest last year. Thanks go to all the Rotarians who marshalled and managed the event and to the WLLR who were so helpful. Well done to all. Next years event is likely to be held on Sunday 14th September.
