WENT ALL THE WAY TO #1 IN 1963. On October 6, 1962 two college students(RAY HILDEBRAND AND JILL JACKSON) from an obscure Baptist college in West Texas, Howard Payne College, drove over to Ft. Worth and dropped in (unannounced) at a small recording studio in the basement of a radio station. When the scheduled artist failed to appear, the two students were given the opportunity to record their song. A few months later Hey, Paula was at the top of the charts in the U.S., Europe , Japan and anywhere in the world there were radio stations playing America music. Interesting to note, the Sweethearts of the 60s were #1 on the charts with Hey Paula on Valentines Day, Feb 14th.
